Overview: Saat aku duduk di kelas III, Pak Gaekku akan pergi ke Mekkah dan aku akan dibawanya menurut rencana yang sudah ditetapkan. Tetapi, beberapa minggu sebelum berangkat, ada desakan dari ibuku dan pamanku, supaya jangan aku yang ikut serta, melainkan pamanku yang bungsu, Idris. Alasan itu diterima oleh Pak Gaekku dan ia berangkat ke Mekkah dengan Idris, pamanku. Ayah Gaekku di Batuhampar tidak setuju dengan perubahan rencana itu, tetapi sebagai seorang ahli tarekat, akhirnya ia mengalah juga. "Ini barangkali sudah takdir Allah," katanya. Tetapi ia selalu berharap supaya didikanku betapa juga berbelok-belok jalannya, akan berakhir di Al Azhar. "Ikhtiar dijalani, takdir menyudahi," katanya lagi. Glad someone recommended this to me. The author did a great job wrapping everything up at the end. No weird plot holes left behind. Will be looking for more from this author.

Honestly one of the better books I've read lately. I got really invested in the main character's journey. Everything just clicked for me. A solid 5/5 for me.
