Overview: Tanah Melayu yang asalnya hanya dihuni orang Melayu telah berubah ekonomi serta politiknya akibat dicorakkan oleh dasar penjajah. Penduduknya hari ini berbilang kaum dan tanpa penyatuan nasional yang dimapankan, pemahaman berkaitan Perlembagaan, manipulasi mudah saja dilakukan. Menyedari situasi ini, kontrak sosial menerusi Perlembagaan Persekutuan 1957 tidak wajar dibahas atau dipertikai secara terbuka kerana impaknya berisiko memporak-perandakan keharmonian, sekali gus menukar perpaduan sedia ada kepada cabaran paling getir. Hakikatnya, kesediaan mewujudkan kerajaan demokrasi bukan keputusan mudah, malah ia adalah pengorbanan radikal orang Melayu sebagai masyarakat peribumi Tanah Melayu. Bagaimanapun, hasil tolak ansur dan kesepakatan yang dicapai UMNO, MCA, serta MIC menerusi perjanjian yang dimeterai Perlembagaan Persekutuan 1957, beberapa perkara dimaktubkan termasuk kesediaan orang Melayu mengubah status tanah tumpah darah keturunan mereka menjadi tanah perkongsian melalui pemberian kerakyatan kepada orang Cina berkongsi kuasa politik. Justeru, sewajarnya kedudukan orang Melayu dihormati dan realiti ini perlu diterima setiap rakyat Malaysia di samping hak kaum lain kekal dipelihara. Susulan itu, buku ini menjelaskan bagaimana kontrak sosial yang dimeterai Perlembagaan Persekutuan 1957 dirangka untuk tujuan menyelesaikan kepentingan semua kaum di Tanah Melayu, baik majoriti mahupun minoriti. Pada masa sama, buku ini turut merungkai bagaimana 'kontrak sosial' yang tidak wujud secara istilah pada teks Perlembagaan Persekutun 1957 diguna pakai untuk menterjemah takrif persefahaman dan kesepakatan bagi keadilan sosial tiga kaum terbesar di Tanah Melayu. Perlaksanaannya berteraskan semangat mendalam dan ia terbukti berkesan memelihara keharmonian kaum sehingga hari ini. Berikutan itu, ia wajar dilindungi dan buku ini akan memperincikan perbincangan yang disertakan dokumen lengkap bagi membolehkan kontrak sosial difahami dan seterusnya menutup debat percanggahan serta pertelingkahan yang hanya bermaksud mengucar-ngacirkan negara.
