Overview: Våldet och fattigdomen hade präglat Juan Rulfo i den mexikanska by där han växte upp. Han uppmärksammades som författare i Mexico City redan med debuten och novellsamlingen Slätten i lågor. Sedan följde det centrala verket, romanen Pedro Páramo. Denna bok ges nu ut för första gången i Sverige, översatt av Yvonne Blank. Där ingår även 13 andra berättelser av Juan Rulfo.Juan Rulfo föddes 1917 i en liten by på den mexikanska landsbygden. Det var fattigt, vilket påverkade hans liv och författarskap. Hans far dog i det våldsamma inbördeskriget (Cristerosupproret) i Mexiko på 20-talet när Juan var sex år. När hans mor dog fyra år senare placerades han på ett barnhem. Som ung vuxen flyttade han till Mexico City och universitetet och började skriva, både prosa och filmmanus. Han gav ut den sensationella romanen Pedro Páramo. Samtidigt blev han en etablerad fotograf som skildrade sin uppväxtmiljö på den fattiga landsbygden. 1986 dog han 71 år gammal.Juan Rulfo debuterade med novellsamlingen Slätten i lågor, 1953. A solid read. Interesting premise and executed fairly well. Just a few slow chapters here and there. Enjoyable weekend read.

Finished it in a couple of days. The writing style is very engaging. It’s easy to follow but still has a lot of depth. Definitely recommend it if you like this genre.

I have mixed feelings about this one. It had some good moments, but the overall plot felt a bit disjointed in the second half. Probably won't read it again, but it was an okay way to pass the time.
