Versi ini bertarikh 1758 bersamaan 1172 H, dan dianggap yang tertua dalam simpanan mana-mana perpustakaan di seluruh dunia. Hikayat ini membentangkan sebuah kanvas ceritera yang lebar tentang cara berfikir, nilai-nilai, hubungan antara manusia dan antarabangsa pada zaman Melaka dan sebelumnya, dan seterusnya melukiskan seorang wira Melayu, serta pergelutannya secara fizikal dan intelektual. Pada bangsa-bangsa di Nusantara, beliaulah rakyat yang sempurna dan yang telah membawa nama baik, serta kejayaan negerinya ke berbagai-bagai negara yang terkenal pada masa itu, di Timur dan di Barat.Muhammad Haji Salleh telah melakukan alih aksara terhadap manuskrip ini. Beliau berkelulusan sarjana Kesusasteraan Melayu yang banyak menulis esei dan puisi tentang tema dan watak dalam sastera Melayu lama. Sebagai tanda pengiktirafan sumbangan akademik dan kreatif yang luas ini, beliau dianugerahi gelaran Sasterawan Negara Malaysia (1991) dan Tokoh Akademik Negara (2008). Finished it in a couple of days. It has a good balance of dialogue and description. Everything felt like it moved at the right speed. Glad I picked this up.

Honestly one of the better books I've read lately. The writing style is very engaging. It’s easy to follow but still has a lot of depth. Worth the time and money.
