Overview: Written in the fall of 1888 by Strindberg under tremendous pressure. After a stay on Skovlyst in Denmark he was accused of raping his 16-year-old maid, and as a misguided defense brought false accusations against her brother.The memorandum shapes itself into a kind of defense speech before a trial. Strindberg constructs fuzzy relationships, makes generalizations and stacks one remarkable half-truth on top of the other. The almost paranoid features are familiar in texts and other works from later periods in Strindberg's life, and the events on the estate Skovlyst were later treated in the novel Tschandala.

Good, but not quite perfect. Interesting premise and executed fairly well. Just a few slow chapters here and there. Still a good book.

Really enjoyed this one. The author did a great job wrapping everything up at the end. No weird plot holes left behind. Definitely recommend it if you like this genre.

Glad someone recommended this to me. The writing style is very engaging. It’s easy to follow but still has a lot of depth. A solid 5/5 for me.

I was pleasantly surprised. I loved how the story unfolded. It kept me guessing without being too confusing. Would probably read it again at some point.
