Many of the residence were ex-cons needing a halfway house between the prisons they were recently released from and the streets. Others were mental patients who were ejected from closed psychiatric hospitals, and then there were those, such as Leonard, who, while being an aging man, chose to live there because of unfortunate circumstances, and the cheap rent. While allowing the guest the freedom to do pretty much whatever they wanted, Rick, an ex-convict, and the hotel’s manager, had his on agenda. He, while providing free rent, took advantage of the talents of several of the hotel’s willing women. Leonard, a retired auto worker, who needed a cheap place to stay behind a divorce in which he lost his home, and after moving into the hotel, and despite his attempts to resist, found himself entangled with the drug use, and prostitution, that was prevalent in the small, grimy, rooms. The illicit and addictive activity, quickly, became a daily ritual for him, no matter how hard he tried to resist. After getting out of a threesome relationship between he and Bertha, who was a heroin addict, and a domineering, lesbian, crack-whore, Stella, he eventually meets a woman with whom he shared a lot in common — a woman, who like him, moved in because of the cheap rent. They fall in love and want to move out, but can Leonard really leave the drugs and crack-whores behind? Only time will tell.

Took me a few chapters to get into it, but it was worth it. Writing is good, just wish there was a bit more depth in certain parts. Still kept my attention though. Still a good book.
