Overview: Las fronteras africanas establecidas a finales del siglo XIX destacan no solo por ser “artificiales”, sino sobre todo porque su creación es anterior a la de los estados que delimitan. Las potencias coloniales europeas invadieron el continente y acordaron repartírselo en la Conferencia de Berlín (1884-1885), pero lo que no deja de sorprender es que aquellas fronteras que nada tenían que ver con las etnias africanas anteriores se mantuvieran tras la descolonización. La explotación de los recursos naturales (diamantes, oro, petróleo, coltán…) y los conflictos que alimenta también se han mantenido; son conocidas sus consecuencias en países como Angola, Liberia, Sierra Leona, Sudán del Sur, Nigeria o la República Democrática del Congo. Ante el pesado lastre de la herencia colonial, junto con otros factores, cobra relevancia la idea que Mbuyi Kabunda recuerda en el prólogo: “África debe abandonar la lógica de economías rentistas o extractivas que ayer justificaron la colonización y hoy el acaparamiento de sus tierras para empezar a producir para África y para los africanos”.

Good, but not quite perfect. Interesting premise and executed fairly well. Just a few slow chapters here and there. A solid 4 stars from me.

Honestly one of the better books I've read lately. I got really invested in the main character's journey. Everything just clicked for me. Will be looking for more from this author.
