Overview: کتاب «بشر و تکنیک: افتاداتی من باب فلسفۀ حیات» اثر اسوالد اشپنگلر، متنی کلاسیک است که در سال ۱۹۳۱ به چاپ رسیده و از اولین کتب درباب رابطۀ بین بشر و تکنولوژی است که تحلیلی انتقادی از تأثیر پیشرفت تکنولوژی بر زندگی و فرهنگ بشر ارائه میکند. نویسنده کتاب را با این ادعا شروع میکند که عصر تکنیک که شامل تسلط ماشینها بر زندگی ما و صنعتی شدن جوامع می شود، به اوج خود رسیده است و بشریت را به سمت فاجعه می کشاند. او استدلال میکند که فرهنگ عصر ماشینی فاقد حیات فرهنگی مترقی است که تمدنهای پیشین را تعریف میکرد و در عوض شهوت قدرت و مالکیت بر آن مسلط است. تز اصلی کتاب این است که پیروزی تکنولوژی منجر به بیگانگی بشریت از طبیعت خود شده است و نابودی تمدن غرب را منجر میگردد. اشپنگلر در فصل اول مفهوم «تکنیک» را تعریف میکند. او بین امور تکنیکال و امور فرهنگی تمایز قائل می شود و بحث میکند که در حالی که تکنولوژی بشریت را قادر به مهار نیروهای طبیعت کرده است، اما ما را نسبت دنیای طبیعی نیز بیگانه کرده است. اشپنگلر در فصل دوم به بررسی دوگانگی بین «گیاهخواران» و «جانوران شکاری» میپردازد. گیاهخواران نشان دهنده جوامع صلحآمیز کشاورزی هستند که ثبات و هماهنگی با طبیعت را در اولویت قرار میدهند، در حالی که جانوران شکاری نماد جوامع تهاجمی و صنعتی هستند که به دنبال سلطه و کنترل هستند. در فصل سوم، او مروری بر تاریخ انسان می.کند و از رابطۀ بین فرهنگ انسانی و ابزارهای دستی برای اثبات نظریهاش بهره میگیرد. فصل چهارم به نقش گفتار و تصدی گری در تمدن بشری میپردازد. اشپنگلر چگونگی تحول ارتباطات و فعالیتهای اقتصادی را در طول زمان بررسی میکند و تغییر از سنت های شفاهی به زبان نوشتاری و از تجارت محلی به تجارت جهانی را برجسته میکند. در فصل آخر، وی در مورد ظهور و افول نهایی فرهنگ ماشینی بحث میکند. او پیشبینی میکند که تمدن غربی از سبک زندگی مصنوعی خود، خسته خواهد شد و از تمدنی که ایجاد کرده متنفر میگردد.

Not bad, but not my favorite. The writing was fine, but I didn't feel very connected to the characters. They felt a bit flat. Probably won't read it again, but it was an okay way to pass the time.

Honestly one of the better books I've read lately. The pacing was spot on and the characters felt real. I didn't find myself getting bored at any point. Glad I picked this up.
