Overview: Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2003 im Fachbereich Germanistik - Neuere Deutsche Literatur, 1,0, Martin-Luther-Universität Halle-Wittenberg, Die Legende, 8 Quellen im Literaturverzeichnis, Deutsch, Bei der Beschäftigung mit Legenden stößt man unweigerlich auf die unterschiedlichsten Begriffsbestimmungen in den verschiedensten Wissenschaften und im Alltag. Der Ursprung des Wortes liegt im Lateinischen "legere" und dessen abgeleiteten Gerundiv "legenda", was "das zu Lesende" bedeutet. Bei darauf folgenden Forschungen stößt man im religiösen und im literarischen Bereich unmittelbar auf die Heiligenlegenden der katholischen Kirche. Diese christlich katholische Form der Legende ist die Darstellung der Lebensgeschichte oder die Beschreibung einiger Passagen aus dem Leben eines Heiligen. Im weitesten Sinne ist theologisch dabei von Bedeutung, dass die Erzählung von einer von Gott begnadete Person handelt, die als historisch bezeugt gilt. Wegen dieses Anspruchs an Authentizität soll die Heiligenlegende den Leser bzw. Hörer zu einem gottgefälligen Leben anregen. Diese Funktionalität wird im nächsten Kapitel ausführlicher analysiert, da diese Form der Legende primär den Fokus dieser Arbeit bildet. Im ersten Teil gehe ich im Detail auf die Heiligenlegende ein, um diese zweiten Teil die herausgefilterten Merkmale auf Vladimir Nabokovs Roman Pnin zu beziehen. Dabei wird sich zeigen, dass Pnin eine Figur mit den Eigenschaften eines Heiligen ist und der Roman durchaus als Legende des 20. Jahrhunderts betrachtet werden kann.

Took me a few chapters to get into it, but it was worth it. Writing is good, just wish there was a bit more depth in certain parts. Still kept my attention though. I'd probably recommend it to a friend.

Honestly one of the better books I've read lately. The pacing was spot on and the characters felt real. I didn't find myself getting bored at any point. Would probably read it again at some point.
