Overview: Young Jessie Farrell is always being left behind. When she gets lost in a corn maze on Halloween Eve, she is befriended by a Unicorn named Gus who takes her on an adventure to meet the Spirit Bear who guards the pumpkin patch from a pumpkin stealing rat. This is the first in a series of short bedtime stories about Jessie and Gus, son of the Unicorn King. This story is written in an easy to read play type of format. The tale of Jessie and Gus was a favorite of the kids during the author's school readings. One class of eight year-olds asked if they could participate in the reading. A solid read. The middle dragged a tiny bit, but the ending totally made up for it. Enjoyable weekend read.

Really enjoyed this one. It has a good balance of dialogue and description. Everything felt like it moved at the right speed. Glad I picked this up.

Pretty good overall. It held my attention, even if a few things were a little predictable. Still a good book.
