Overview: Kocatepe Olayı; hala Türkiye medyasında tartışılmakta olan ve yaklaşık 20 yıldır hakkında gazetelerde yazılan yazılar birçok kitaba sığacak kadar yer almış, daha içerisinde çok bilinmeyenli noktaları olan bir olaydır. Bu olay üzerine oldukça büyük spekülasyonlar yapılsa bile Harekat başlar başlamaz Kıbrıs'ın güneyinde bulunan Baf kentinin savunması ve 21 saat sonra düşüşüyle ilgili olduğundan ötürü Baf çarpışmalarının bu olaydan ayrılamayacağını düşünerek, benim kendimin de bilfiil içinde bulunduğum "Baf Çarpışmaları ile Kocatepe Olayı"nın birlikte ele alınması gerektiğini düşünmekteyim. Savaşın başladığı andan itibaren Baf ve çevresinde meydana gelen olaylar, Kocatepe gemisinin de kaderini belirlemiştir. Aradan 36 yıl geçti. "Baf Çarpışmaları ve Kocatepe Olayı" tüm gizemini koruyarak toplumsal hafıza ve yargının önüne getirilip tartışılmalı ve tarihe mal olmalıdır diye düşünerek bu tarihi olayı yazmayı düşündüm. Bu konunun gerçekten tartışılmasıyla aradaki bazı karanlıkta kalmış noktaların, kesin resmi açıklamalar olmasa bile, tüm yönleri ile realist ve objektif bir şekilde,kamuoyunun dikkatine getirilmesi taraftarıyım. Yorumlamayı ve gerekirse yargıyı Kıbrıslı Türk halkı ve Türkiye kamuoyu yerine getirmelidir. Tabi, bunu yaparken yaklaşık 20 yıldır Türkiye medyasına göz attığımızda çok değişik tartışmalar ve de objektif koşullar da göz önüne getirilmeden yorumlanmakta ve Türkiye ile Kıbrıs'ın kuzeyindeki kamuoyunun önüne getirilmektedir. Kocatepe Olayı salt bir savaş gemisi olayı olarak algılanırsa ve de Baf olayları veya çarpışmaları nazari dikkate alınmazsa, tarihin doğru verilişi olamayacağına inanıyorum. Dolayısıyla bu olayı dile getirirken doğru bir sonuca erişmek için en uçtan en ılımlı noktalara kadar sorular sormakta ve bunlar üzerinde bilimsel yaklaşımlarla tarihe yardımcı olmaya çalışmaktayım. Bir olayın açıklığa kavuşması için analitik soru yöntemiyle yaklaşımlar yapmak esasında olayla ilgili olan kesimlere de yardımcı olmaktadır. Eğer ortada yanlışlıklar olmuşsa veya ortaya yanlışlıklar çıkmışsa o sorunların çözümüne böyle bir yöntemle yaklaşılmalıdır. Bunun yanında demokratik bir anlayışın ve de şeffaflığın gelişmesi için bu tip soruların sorulması gerektiğine inanmaktayım. Tabi ki burada da demokrasi ve hoşgörünün önemli bir yeri vardır. Eğer demokrasi ve onun gereği olan hoşgörü varsa bana göre böyle bir konudan gocunmak ve yanlış manalar çıkarmak gereksizdir. Ülkenin demokratik olgunlaşmasına bir yarar da sağlamaz.Tarih bugünkü çağımızda çok perspektifli bir bakış açısı olarak algılanmaktadır. Bu görüş açısıyla hem Baf çarpışmalarının hem de "Kocatepe Olayı"nın birlikte ele alınmasıyla daha geniş bir bakış açısının elde edilecektir. Türkiye medyası 20 yıldır bu olayı Türkiye kamuoyuna duyururken Kocatepe'nin çok yakınında olan Baf şehrindeki olayları ele almamakta, olaya salt bir gemi batırılması olarak bakmaktadır. 20 yıllık arşivimi de tarayarak Türkiye'de olayın verilişi ve Baf çarpışmalarının nazari dikkate alınmamasından, bana göre yanlış sonuçlara gitme yanında olayın iyi kavranamaması gibi durum da ortaya çıkabilmektedir. Araştırmayı yaparken daha fazla sorular sorarak okuyanları düşünmeye sevketmek istedim. Bu benim de yaklaşımımı tespit eden bir bakış açısı. Zaten tarihi mesajların bizzat okuyanda sorgulanması birinci ve en öğretici bir öğrenme metodudur. Çeşitli gazete ve kitaplardan aynı zamanda çok perspektifli düşünceden yararlanarak "Baf Çarpışmaları ve Kocatepe Olayı"nı Kıbrıslı Türk kamuoyunun dikkatine getirmek istedim. Türkiye kamuoyunun da bu araştırmadan yararlanacağını düşünüyorum. Dolayısıyla Kocatepe Olayı'na geçmeden önce, 20 Temmuz 1974 tarihinde olanları, orada 21 saat devam eden savaşı ve de daha sonra Kocatepe'nin niye Baf açıklarına kadar geldiği gerçeğini iyice incelemenin gerekliliğine inanıyorum. Şimdiye kadar bu konularda hep Türkiye medyası konuştu. Hep onların görüşleri açıklandı. Olayın öncelikli muhatapları içerisinde Kocatepe'deki personel ve yine Baf Türklerinin, yani bizim olduğumuzu da düşünerek bu araştırmayı yapma arzusu duydum. 1964, 9 Mart'ında binlerce kişilik EOKA ve Kıbrıs Rum Milli Muhafız Ordusu'nun üzerimize attığı çeşitli top ve havan bombaları ile karşı karşıya kalmıştık. (7 Mart 1964 çarşı olaylarına misilleme olarak U.I.). Türkiye'nin olaya müdahalesi olacağına kesinlikle inanmıştık. Ama müdahale onca çarpışmaya, endişe ve korkuya rağmen Kıbrıs genelinde de, Baf'ta da gerçekleşmemişti (sınırlı da olsa Erenköy'de olmuştu). Sonuç hüsran ve teslimiyet şartlarıydı. 1974 yılındaki savaş daha da büyük bir olaydı. Kıbrıs genelinde büyük bir savaş vardı. Türk Ordusu'nun Girne'den çıkarmaya başlaması ile bir anda ateş çemberinde kalmıştık. Baf'ın 3000 (üç bin) kişilik halkı bu defa durumun 1964 yılına benzemediğini ve muhakkak müdahalenin Baf'tan da olacağını beklemekteydi. 1964 olaylarından farklı olarak şimdi sadece karadan değil denizden de kuşatma altında kalıyor ve Baf hem karadan hem de denizden binlerce top mermisini kafasına yiyordu....
