Overview: Kanthi is a collection of 30 poems on a wide variety of subjects. The first poetry is श्रद्धान्जलि, a tribute to a father, and this is followed by a devotional song on कन्हैया Lord Krishna.The collection turns romantic with sonnets about बदराromantic rain clouds, स्वप्न पुरुष the ideal dream guy, and नवोढ़ा a newly-wed bride. These are followed by verses on आशंका when women are in dilemma, दाम्पत्यdescribing a happily married couple, पथिका a lady lost in mysteries of life, आशिक a naughty lover, and सैर which depicts couples traveling together & enjoying themselves.A historical composition प्रतिशोध about Prithviraj Chauhan’s revenge takes one back in history, and so does प्रशस्ति गीत which is looking back and praising a person who is retiring from his job. Departure from the job is followed by विदागीत which depicts a brides departure from her parent's house, first time after her marriage, and landing into a कटघरा (jail) in a complex relationship with a life partner.किसलय comes with a happy announcement about a child born in in the year 2000, दुलारी a (हाइकू)type of poetry focuses on a favorite girl child. The birth of a sweet girl is the subject of दुहिता, and this is followed by जन्मोत्सव which is about birthday celebrations.लाड़ला A treasured son has a birthday card written for him. Another Birthday poem वर्षगांठ is there to be quoted before नवविवाहिताdescribes a shy bride.Two get well soon poems तुम जल्दी अच्छे हो जाना and विश यू ए अर्ली रिकवरी are written for well being of loved ones.Kids in a three-child family have a poem written for each of them. पहलौठा is for the eldest kid, मंझला is for the second, and चिराग is personified as the youngest kid.The author's long association with Indian Railways families and friends, in Bilaspur, Raipur, Chakradharpur, Jamshedpur, Bhilai, and Calcutta had brought out four different compositions. Took me a few chapters to get into it, but it was worth it. Writing is good, just wish there was a bit more depth in certain parts. Still kept my attention though. A solid 4 stars from me.
