Overview: About the Book Books about Military History texts discuss national, armed services or unit experiences of armed conflict - their causes, course and consequences. Titles include: Militarism, The Army Lists of the Roundheads and Cavaliers, La Convention de GenËve du 22 Ao˚t 1864 et les SociÈtÈs de la Croix Rouge, The sanitary contrasts of the British and French armies during the Crimean war, What is Contraband of War, and What is Not, Historical Record of the Seventeenth Regiment of Light Dragoons, and On Modern Armies. Also in this Book Books about Military Strategy analyse the decisions that military leaders make to achieve victory over their enemy. This includes planning of troop and logistical movements. The two most well-known exponents of military strategy are Carl von Clausewitz and Sun Tzu. Titles include: Attack and Defense of Fortified Harbors, Die Macht der Persönlichkeit im Kriege: Studien nach Clausewitz, Grant's Strategy and Other Addresses, The German War Book, The reality of war, a companion to Clausewitz, Training in Night Movements Based on Actual Experiences in War, and Offensive Fighting. And in this Book Books about the United States Military History generally begin with the American War of Independence, 1775–1783, against the United Kingdom, however the American Civil War (1861–1865) was responsible for more casualties than all its other wars combined. The US had a role World War 1 (1917-18), and was a decisive factor in World War II (1941–1945). Other wars have included the Indian Wars, the Spanish-American War, Korea, Vietnam, the Gulf War, Iraq and Afghanistan. An average read for me. The writing was fine, but I didn't feel very connected to the characters. They felt a bit flat. Might work better for someone else, just wasn't completely for me.
