Overview: Nel folclore di tutte le culture, in ogni tempo e in ogni luogo, abita la figura tormentata della strega: una donna dotata di poteri che si credeva le fossero stati donati direttamente dal demonio, con cui era in comunicazione, e che venivano utilizzati per nuocere il prossimo. Sebbene abbia origini antichissime, in occidente la figura della strega conosce il suo periodo più terribile a partire dal 1200, quando la Chiesa comincia a far circolare i primi documenti che attestano la presenza di donne dedite al culto del maligno e iniziate alle arti magiche. Da quel momento fino al XVII secolo, le donne considerate "pericolose" o "disturbanti" per la comunità venivano accusate di stregoneria, torturate e messe al rogo. Nell’Ottocento, però, il personaggio della strega viene rivalutato grazie ad alcune opere storiche e letterarie. "Grimorio" non ha altra pretesa se non proprio quella di raccogliere testimonianze e racconti su questa figura magica troppo spesso denigrata ingiustamente. Curioso notare come numerosi testi presenti in questo volume siano stati scritti proprio da autrici, spesso sotto pseudonimo maschile. Alcuni racconti avranno come protagoniste le streghe in carne e ossa, in altri la loro presenza sarà solamente un velo impalpabile che cala sui protagonisti inconsapevoli tramite qualche sortilegio o qualche magia. Documenti e testimonianze storiche saranno una parte importante di questo libro, per mostrare cosa accadeva per davvero durante i processi di stregoneria e le condanne inflitte alle accusate.

Finished it in a couple of days. The pacing was spot on and the characters felt real. I didn't find myself getting bored at any point. Definitely recommend it if you like this genre.

I was pleasantly surprised. The writing style is very engaging. It’s easy to follow but still has a lot of depth. A solid 5/5 for me.

Such a great read. The author did a great job wrapping everything up at the end. No weird plot holes left behind. Definitely recommend it if you like this genre.
