Si leggono queste parole e – a parte il vigore e l’articolazione impeccabile della lingua, che non sono consueti sui nostri giornali – si pensa di leggere una cronaca odierna. Invece è Giovanni Guidiccioni, umanista, che introduce il racconto di una violenta sollevazione popolare a Lucca, nel 1531, contro una oligarchia ormai infetta, che taglieggiava i ceti inferiori. Questo testo vibrante, che appartiene al «canone ristretto delle eccellenti orazioni politiche cinquecentesche», fu pubblicato nel 1945 da un grande italianista, Carlo Dionisotti, con un preciso riferimento agli avvenimenti di allora: «Leggere del resto non si può più, in tanto precipizio delle cose nostre e di noi stessi, persone e pensieri coinvolti oggi in una prova estrema, se non quel che incide e assicura di un appiglio immediato». Oggi, in un altro «precipizio delle cose», l’orazione del Guidiccioni ci viene incontro di nuovo, perché i vizi della storia e dell’Italia sono pertinaci e ricorrenti.
